FILM UPDATES: * I’m at the Psychedelic Science 2025 Conference in Denver to meet many of the leading minds in this space. I have an on-camera interview with Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, author of The Body Keeps The Score, and some exciting conversations with the leading scientist studying 5-MeO. Stay tuned for images and videos from the event! Let’s get into today's issue: Success Is Just a High-Performing Prison If You’re Still Unaware Hey friend, We did it. We cracked the code. And yet… something still feels off. It’s subtle. A quiet ache. A background hum of “Is this it?” From the outside, everything looks dialed. Because success, without awareness, is just a prettier prison. The High Performer’s DilemmaHere’s what no one tells you about high performance. It’s really easy to confuse mastery with avoidance.
When you’re great at performing, the world rewards your mask. So why would you ever take it off? You’ve trained yourself to turn pain into productivity. You’ve built a reputation on being unshakeable. You’ve made peace with discomfort by outworking it. But, you didn’t solve the problem…You just outran it with a faster treadmill. The Real Root of RestlessnessThe discomfort you feel isn’t because you haven’t achieved enough. It’s because you’ve built your identity on the pursuit of achievement itself. And that’s shaky ground. When success becomes your source of self-worth, you become addicted to the next milestone. When the applause fades, you panic. When stillness arises, you sprint. Not because you’re lazy. Not because you’re weak. But because you’ve never learned how to just be. Enter: The Prison of ProgressYou’ve probably heard some version of, “Growth is everything.” “If you’re not growing, you’re dying.” “Never settle.” Sounds inspiring, right? But what if I told you that same belief system…is what’s keeping you stuck? When your value is tethered to more money, more clients, more goals, you can’t relax. You can’t slow down. You can’t be present. Because presence feels… unproductive, and that makes your ego itch. So you stay in motion. But you never arrive. How do I know? It was my life for 2 decades. The Paradox: Awareness ≠ ApathyLet’s be clear. Awareness doesn’t mean you stop building. It just means you stop bleeding for it. When awareness leads, action becomes cleaner, calmer and more aligned. You stop chasing worth. You start moving from wholeness. And suddenly, the empire you’re building isn’t just big—it’s true. The Mirror PracticeHere’s something bold you can try this week:
This isn’t meant to shame the goal. It’s meant to strip away the illusion that it’s you. Success isn’t the problem. Unconscious success is. Final ThoughtThere’s nothing wrong with ambition. But when ambition becomes our identity, we’ve traded one cage for another. Freedom isn’t found in what we accomplish. It’s found in what we no longer need to prove. So keep creating. Because a prison with gold bars is still a prison. Best, and see you next week. Nic “awake” Kusmich PS. → Ready to escape the prison? REWired What if everything you knew about self-help and personal development was not only wrong but was the very thing keeping you stuck? REWired reveals the keys at the cross-section of ancient wisdom and modern neuroscience that bring about easy and permanent transformation.
Hey friend, You keep saying you want to move on from the pattern, the pain, the person, the past. You’ve processed it.Therapied it.Breathworked, journaled, and saged the hell out of it. But it still lives somewhere in your nervous system.Still hijacks your reactions.Still whispers when it should be silent. You’re not crazy. You’re just remembering too efficiently. Because here’s the thing:The past doesn’t live in time.It lives in you. Memory Is Not a File. It’s a Feedback Loop. You think of...
Hey friend, “The future isn’t something you walk into. It’s something you remember in advance.” That sentence might scramble your neurons a little - good. It’s supposed to. Because what you call the "future versino of yoruself" isn’t some glittering endpoint you arrive at after enough journaling, dopamine detoxing, or punching trauma in the throat. It’s not out there. It’s not waiting for you. It’s already encoded - as potential - in here.Right now. And the only question is:Will you install...
Hey friend, Let's Be Honest... You’ve probably done it. A retreat in Costa Rica.A cold plunge that made your ancestors shiver. You burned sage, journaled your pain, and told your inner child it’s safe now. All in the noble pursuit of finding yourself. And yet you’re still anxious. Still stuck. Still wondering if maybe the next breathwork session will finally crack the code and boom, you’ll finally “know who you are.” I’ve got good news and bad news. The bad news? You’re never going to find...
