From Wimpy to Warrior: Building Marketing Grit with Daily Doses of Discomfort

The Bottom Line

Read time: 3.5 minutes.

Hey Reader,

Buckle up for a dose of real talk about what separates the marketing minnows from the whales. It all boils down to one thing: commitment with a backbone.

On a recent coaching call, I delved into the wisdom I sometimes glean from my daily cold plunge habit. Btw, someone sent me this clip of this song and now I can’t get it out of my head every time I cold plunge. 😂

While the health benefits of a daily ice bath might be debatable, there's a powerful lesson here for all of us ambitious service providers.

See every morning, come hell or high water, I always plunge.

Why?

Less about the potential health benefits.
And more about building my commitment muscle to do things even if I don’t feel like doing them.

Here's the truth bomb: most entrepreneurs chase motivation like a dog chasing butterflies. We wait for that feeling to strike before tackling the important, but often unglamorous, tasks. But guess what? Motivation is a fickle friend. It shows up for brunch, but flakes on deadlines.

Instead of this unreliable companion, we need to build a relationship with something far sturdier: commitment.

Remember Sarah, the phenomenal copywriter who undervalued her services? She ditched the "imposter syndrome" and started positioning her work as an investment, not an expense. Why? Because she committed to her worth.

Now, I'm not necessarily suggesting you take up polar plunges (although, hey, if that's your jam, more power to you! I hear it’s the fastest way to become a billionaire). The key is to identify an uncomfortable-but-important activity and commit to doing it daily. It could be anything from crafting a killer content calendar to mastering that pesky Facebook ad platform.

Here's why this daily dose of discomfort is magic:

  • You build integrity. When you follow through on commitments, regardless of mood, you build trust with yourself. That little voice inside whispering doubt? You learn to tell it to take a hike.
  • You become a finisher. Success, as they say, is simply not quitting. By sticking to your commitments, you train yourself to see things through, even when the going gets tough. Remember, the gold is often just three feet further than you think you can go!
  • You conquer your inner critic. That pesky voice that throws excuses your way? Daily commitment weakens it. Pretty soon, that voice becomes a whimper, not a roar.

The Challenge:

This week, I challenge you to pick your personal “plunge”. Find something that requires consistent effort, something that pushes you outside your comfort zone. Then, commit to doing it every single day.

This isn't about punishment, it's about empowerment. It's about building the mental muscle to become a marketing maven, not a wimpy marketer who buckles under every little pressure.

Marketing aint easy! It’s tough. It’ll challenge you every day. You’ll want to give up. So, build your commitment muscle through daily practice!

Remember, orcas don't chase butterflies – they go after what they want with unwavering focus and are the apex predators of the sea.

So, what are you waiting for? Channel your inner champion and conquer that commitment!

Best

The Bottom Line Read time: 3.5 minutes. Hey Reader, Today, I want to dive into something that’s going to sound counterintuitive to all the “be original” advice we’re bombarded with daily. Let’s talk about copywriting—and no, I’m not just talking about the craft of writing persuasive text. I’m talking about “copying” the right stuff to take your marketing to the next level. Now, why do we call it copywriting? Some people think it’s because we’re writing “copy,” but I’m convinced it’s because,...

The Bottom Line Read time: 3.5 minutes. Hey Reader, Let’s dive into something that’s probably holding back more sales than we’d like to admit: objections. You know, those pesky little “buts” that creep up right when you think you’ve got someone ready to sign on the dotted line. Objections are a natural part of the sales process, but how you handle them can be the difference between a sale and a missed opportunity. And today, I want to talk about a unique way to overcome them—not by...

The Bottom Line Read time: 3.5 minutes. Hey Reader, Let’s talk about something that a lot of people miss in their marketing: messaging. And not just any kind of messaging—the kind that speaks directly to your ideal prospect. You know, the one who’s ready to swipe their card for your high-ticket offer without batting an eyelid. I had an interesting conversation a couple of weeks ago with one of my coaching clients. They said, “Nic, I joined this program because I want to know how to speak to...
